Artist: Album Title - Comment
- Daft Punk: Homework - This obviously has to be the first on the list. It's one of the most influential house albums of all time, shaping the evolution of the genre for the almost 12 years since its release, and definitely into the future. Every one of Daft Punk's albums has a different style, this one having strong Chicago House influences. Every song is worth listening, but if you haven't heard Around the World, Da Funk, Phoenix, or Teachers, click the links now! Also, if you're a fan of 90s house, Teachers is a list of Daft Punk's influences, and there are some amazing artists mentioned.
- Mylo: Destroy Rock & Roll - This is a really chilled out style of house, like that Osborne remix I posted the other day. With the slower pace and warmer sounds, he's able to evoke a lot more feeling through his music than other types of house. Also, Muscle Cars has one of my favourite synths of all time, which comes in about a third of the way into the song. Again, every song is worth listening, but my favourites (other than Muscle Cars) are In My Arms, Rikki, Otto's Journey, and Paris Four Hundred.
- Modjo: Modjo - This one-album wonder band of 2001 is simply fantastic. If you haven't heard Lady, then you should have! 5-star song, absolutely. Their style is often vocal oriented, with supporting guitar riffs over a house beat and synths. They're a French band, but like any internationally minded Frenchmen, they sing in English. Listen for disco influences in their music, and remember, house evolved out of disco! Feel the dance! My favourites, other than Lady, are Chillin', No More Tears, and On Fire.
- Ian Pooley: Since Then - This album's genre is deep house, or possibly summer house. The summer aspect is probably a better descriptor; the synths, light guitar, and overall mood is carefree and summery. This is one of my favourite house albums simply because it's so hard to be in a bad mood listening to it. You really have to hear it to understand. So here are some links! Check out CoraƧao Tambor, Visions, 900 Degrees, and Balmes (A Better Life), but all the tracks are good.
- Alan Braxe: The Upper Cuts - This is a compilation of tracks French house producer Alan Braxe has made or worked with people on. For those who don't know, that includes Stardust's anthem Music Sounds Better With You! For those who still don't know, click the link and have a listen, it's one of the best house tracks of all time. This guy's an excellent producer, and for those of who like Daft Punk's Homework, you're going to love this. Some other solid tracks from the album are Most Wanted, Intro, Shakedown - At Night (Alan Braxe Remix), and Palladium. Again, still listen to the whole album!
